Mothia

Mothia is one of our Suites in Villa Sicilia (8 persons)

Mothia has high beamed celing, raw stonework walls and tonachina white walls, tiled terracotta floorings, collections of antique furniture and doors, en-suite bathroom. The suite is equipped with air conditioning, heating, open fireplaces and the living area next to the terraces, the garden and the courtyard, all greeting guests with breathtaking views of the Selinunte sea coast. The outside living areas are extensive, with several terraces for dining and relaxing, enjoying the gentle breeze of the Mediterranean mixed with the scent of the surrounding flowers and olive trees.

The former Phoenician stronghold of Mothia was surrounded by a wall over 2m thick. There are impressive ruins to be found on a stroll round the island including a house with pebble mosaics, the Cothon - a small rectangular harbour, the ruins of the Tophet and a large palace-like structure on the western shore. In the museum there is one world-class treasure which is alone worth the trip to Motya - and probably to Sicily. This is the Giovane di Mozia - the Motya Youth.
